CEREC Same-Day Dental Crowns
Dublin, CA

Dr. Ignacio hand prepping CEREC dental crown machineDental crowns are a great solution for restoring your badly damaged or missing tooth. However, standard dental crowns are usually installed over two procedures, with a waiting period of some few weeks in between. This waiting period is to allow for the custom fabrication of the crowns in a dental lab, following the taking of your dental impression. Unfortunately, during this waiting period, you will have to make do with reduced dental function. However, what if it is possible to install a dental crown on the same day instead of having to wait for weeks? At Dublin Family Dental we offer CEREC dental crowns, which are custom-made and installed on your damaged tooth on the same day.

What Are CEREC Dental Crowns?

CEREC crowns are same-day crowns that are custom-made using CEREC, a high-tech device that uses CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) technology. The process of making the crowns involves taking dental images (x-ray or CT scan images) to create a model of your teeth. CEREC then uses this model to create custom crowns for the damaged teeth. A solid ceramic block is used as the source material for the crowns. The whole process of creating the CEREC crown is very fast, often taking minutes.

How Are CEREC Crowns Different from Standard Dental Crowns?

The main difference between CEREC crowns and the standard (dental lab manufactured) crowns is the time taken. While the standard crowns will take weeks to be fabricated, CEREC crowns are fabricated on the same day, and within minutes.

Aside from the time taken, there is also a difference in how the crowns are designed. For the standard crowns, an impression of your teeth is taken using a putty-like material. This impression is then sent to the dental lab, where it is used as the basis for custom-fabricating the crown. CEREC crowns, on the other hand, are made from a model, which is created using the dental images taken during the consultation.

Lastly, CEREC and standard crowns might differ regarding the materials used. With CEREC crowns, ceramic is used, while with standard crowns, there are several types of crown materials (ceramic, porcelain, and metal) that can be used.

The CEREC Dental Crown Procedure

The CEREC crown procedure - from consultation to installation of the crown - is carried out in one dental visit. The visit starts with an evaluation of your tooth to observe the damage and determine if dental crowns are the right solution for your situation. If the procedure is confirmed, your tooth is then prepared for crown installation by removing the damaged parts and reshaping it to allow the proper fitting of the crown.

After preparing the tooth, a digital model of your tooth is constructed (without the need of using the putty-like material) and then sent to the CEREC device for 3D manufacturing. After manufacturing the crown, finishing touches are added (polishing, painting, and glazing) to give it a natural tooth-like appearance. The crown is then installed on the damaged tooth by cementing it in place, thus fully restoring the function and form of your tooth.

With CEREC crowns, you walk in for a consultation and walk out with your tooth fully restored. At Dublin Family Dental we can offer you high-quality CEREC crowns, which are guaranteed to fully restore the function and appearance of your troubling teeth.
